Belgian drivers' most popular car models revealed
The Volkswagen Golf remains the most popular car in Belgium, according to new figures which also reveal that drivers are increasingly avoiding buying new diesel vehicles.
The Renault Clio and the Fiat 500 come second and third in the league table of most-bought cars in the first half of 2018, said Febiac, the Belgian car and bike federation.
Belgian drivers still love their 4x4s, with SUVs accounting for 36% of new vehicle registrations.
36% of new cars registered in this period were diesel, compared with 58% petrol. Hybrid cars made up 4% of sales and the last 2% were all-electric vehicles.
Ignoring company car registrations, the gap between the diesel and petrol is even bigger - 18.6% vs 77%. Febiac said rising diesel prices and proposals to ban diesel altogether from 2030 were contributing factors.
