Brussels Ring roadworks: E411 tunnel open in both directions while Leonard tunnel remains closed

After checks by engineers, the E411 tunnel linking Brussels and Namur at the Leonard intersection will now remain open in both directions during the current roadworks.

But the Ring Road tunnel at the busy crossroads will remain closed for the duration of the work. It had previously been announced that both tunnels would be closed until 21 May.

Road diversions at the intersection have already been causing considerable disruption to motorists and traffic jams are to be expected, warned the Roads and Traffic Agency (AWV) at the beginning of the busy Ascension weekend.

The crossroads has been undergoing extensive refurbishment since April 2023. During the current phase, supports in the tunnels are being replaced.

Due to the traffic disruption, a dispute has risen between Auderghem and the Flemish Region over the prolonged closure of the E411 exit from Auderghem to Waterloo. The Brussels municipality has gone to court to demand a suspension to the closure with a verdict expected this month.
