Belgian professor a possible target of NSA spying

06:48 03/02/2014

A cyber attack on a Belgian professor now has the federal judicial authorities investigating the case with possible links to the American National Security Agency (NSA.) Jean-Jacques Quisqater, a leading expert in the field of data security, was allegedly hacked in a cyber attack that is being traced to the NSA.

Recgonised internationally as a top specialist in cryptography, which ironically focuses on securing electronic communication equipment, such as electronic chip cards, Quisqater’s own personal computer was hacked. The Louvain-la-Neuve (UCL) professor says the hack occurred through a Linkedin link he believed was sent by a friend. He quickly began noticing his computer doing strange things. Outside of the classroom, Quisqater also works as a security advisor for private companies. His case was discovered as the result of investigations looking at hacking of Belgian telecom Belgacom.
