Bomb threats plague Brussels Region

11:35 11/08/2016

Since the deadly terror attacks of 22 March, there have been at least 30 bomb threats reported each month in the Brussels-Capital Region, an average of one per day, writes Bruzz. As most of the bomb alarms turn out to be false, the local police conclude that it is the people's behavior that has changed. “They are more likely to report suspicious persons or packages,” say the police.

The figures, which were published by La Dernière Heure based on reports from five of the six Brussels police districts, reveal that the police registered a total of 389 bomb threats since 1 January, 2014. Most of them were in the Brussels-Capital/Ixelles zone (160), followed by Uccle/Watermael-Boitsfort/Auderghem (104), Midi (55), Brussels-West (44) and Montgomery (26).

The figures also show a peak in the number of bomb threats reported in the Brussels-Capital Region following a new terror attack elsewhere in the world.

Reports of "suspicious persons or packages" are not "bomb threats". "Threats" are completely different.
