Brussels club Madame Moustache to reopen in October
Dance mecca Madame Moustache is to reopen in October, its co-owner Philippe Fatien has announced. The club had been closed since September 2022 due to a major fire when the building was almost completely destroyed.
The exact date has not been set, but the reopening has been publicised on social media.
“We’re aiming for 17 October, but of course there can always be delays,” Fatien said. “We’re very excited. The most important renovation work has been completed and we will start the final touches in September.”
The path to new life for this dance temple has not been easy. The desire has been there, but, for a long time, with no money to match.
“It was a very long and tiring process, but after more than a year and a half of litigation, we finally reached an agreement with the insurance company and received compensation even though it was too little compared to what we should have received,” Fatien added.
Madame Moustache, billed as “an alternative club experience”, in the heart of the Sainte-Catherine district near the canal, has been welcoming clubbers and concertgoers in what The Guardian called its “kitsch cabaret interiors” since the 1970s.
Also lauded by the British newspaper as the “best bet for a wild night out”, this Brussels paeon to dance puts on a different show every night, including dance music, DJs, live bands, 60s rock, funk and soul and 1980s disco.
