Brussels Muzieque is marking the finale of its musical season with cello duo concerts at Le Baixu on 23 June and Full Circle on 25 June.

The chamber music collective’s project to mark the end of its 2022-2023 season is a highly original programme for the string instrument. It consists of cello duos by celebrated Baroque composers, Geminiani and Boccherini, as well as a world premiere of a cello duo cycle by Belgian composer, Walter Hus.

Building on the rich traditions of the Baroque period, Hus pushes the boundaries of the cello’s expressive potential in his new work.

Performing in both concerts are musicians Aleksey Shadrin, the fourth-prize winner at Belgium’s Queen Elisabeth Cello Competition, and Eduardo Tonietto, cellist and artistic director of Brussels Muzieque.

Together, they will bring these compositions to life, transporting the audience back in time to the lavish courts of 18th-century Europe.

“Feel the tension and passion of Geminiani's soulful duos, with their intricate melodies and dramatic harmonies that evoke the elegant drama of Italian opera,” says Brussels Muzique.

“Then, be transported to the Spanish courts of Boccherini's time, where the cello was the favoured instrument of royalty, and experience the sweet, lyrical melodies and lively rhythms of his duos, taking you on a journey of sensuous pleasure and celebration,” it continues.

Full price tickets cost €15 at Le Baixu and €25 at Full Circle.
