The Bulletin has free tickets to give away for the Brussels show

Le Carnaval des animaux by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns is staged as an interactive family show at Marni on 21 August.

Although he wrote it in 1886, the composer banned the humorous musical suite from being performed in public until after his death because he wanted to maintain his reputation for being a ‘serious’ composer.

The piece - consisting of four movements - received its world premiere in 1922 and ironically became one of his best-known works.

Now more than a century later, four joyful multi-instrumentalist musicians pay tribute to Saint-Saëns. The concert is designed for children aged from six and enables them to discover unusual, surprising, forgotten and sometimes even imaginary animals.

Naturally, the one-hour performance will delight all ages. The famous piece is a staple of the cello repertoire and served as inspiration for composer John Williams when he was writing the musical score for the Harry Potter films.

Marni is a dynamic performing arts venue in Ixelles that stages concerts, shows and festivals, ranging from contemporary dance and circus to jazz and visual arts.
