Brussels Police to demonstrate on 24 April
Police unions in Brussels are planning a general demonstration on Friday, 24 April, the unions announced today at a press conference. The unions are protesting against the government’s taking too long to make a decision on the retirement plan for the city’s police officers.
"If the interior minister and the government are unable to comply with our requirements (a reinstatement of the revoked rights or an acceptable alternative, an ad hoc solution for the officers and a maximum retirement age of 57 years), we will resort to action,” say the unions.
In addition to the general demonstration on 24 April, the police will implement a “fine-free week” between 20 and 24 April, during which officers will give out more verbal warnings than fines for most minor offenses and antisocial behaviour.
