BX.Grown invites Brussels youth to try hand at farming
BX.Grown has launched an initiative to give Brussels youth the chance to grow and harvest their own vegetables at Neerhof Farm in Dilbeek, just outside of Brussels. The BX.Grown project will also organise an organic market on the farm every Sunday, writes Bruzz.
"We want to provide youngsters and adolescents with an environment other than the city," says Neerhof. "We give them the opportunity to recharge their batteries and, who knows, the inspiration to become farmers themselves someday."
The project also aims to show that the production and sale of organic fruit and veg on one hectare can be profitable.
BX.Grown is supported by the Flemish minister for Brussels Sven Gatz with a three-year grant, after which time the project is expected to support itself.
