Eurostar plans direct train from Brussels to Geneva

08:49 12/06/2025

Eurostar has announced plans for three new direct routes starting in 2030, including one from Brussels to Geneva.

The other two routes planned are London to Frankfurt and from London to Geneva.

The direct connection between London, Rotterdam and Amsterdam will also be strengthened as early as this year, with four daily trains in September and five daily trains in December.

The railway operator said it was investing €2 billion in 50 new trains to make the plans a reality, growing Eurostar’s fleet by 30% to 67 trains in total.

“We are seeing strong demand for rail travel across Europe,” said Eurostar chief executive Gwendoline Cazenave.

“Customers want to travel further than ever before by train and enjoy the unique experience we offer. A new golden age of sustainable international travel has arrived.”

Eurostar posted a turnover of €2 billion in 2024 – an increase of 2% that the company credits to growth in passenger numbers and strict cost management.

Eurostar trains carried 19.5 million passengers last year, an increase of 5% compared to the previous year.

The best-performing routes in 2024 were London-Paris (+280,000 passengers), London-Brussels (+250,000 passengers), Paris-Brussels (+160,000 passengers) and Paris-Netherlands (+140,000 passengers).

Eurostar currently operates in five countries: the United Kingdom, Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Germany.
