Fisc to reclaim €386m from Swiss account holders
The Special Tax Inspectorate (ISI) has dealt with 234 cases of taxpayers appearing in the so-called ‘HSBC file’ sent by the French finance minister to the Belgian authorities in 2010. The inland revenue now wants to reclaim a total of €386.4m from these 234 people, Le Soir report. In 2009, a former employee of HSBC France had sent a file containing the names of holders of secret Swiss accounts to the French authorities. In 2010, France in turn provided Belgium with a list of all Belgian taxpayers featured in the ‘HSBC file’. Finance minister Koen Geens has confirmed that the ISI had upheld 484 cases which need to be thoroughly investigated. By mid-May, the ISI had begun legal proceedings for the 234 cases it had already dealt with. An additional 342 cases were also referred to the regional tax control centres.
