Foire du Midi sewage ends up in rainwater drainage system
Sewage from Foire du Midi toilets has been entering Brussels’ rainwater drainage system.
Images circulating online show waste water from toilets at the fair entering the rainwater drainage system on Boulevard du Midi and Boulevard Poincaré, Bruzz reports.
Brussels Mobility said it was working with the City of Brussels and the fairground operators to find a solution.
This is not the first time waste water from the fair’s toilets has contaminated the drains on the street side, and the consequences are serious.
Not only is it harmful in terms of hygiene, but the blockage can also attract vermin and increase the risk of flooding during heavy rainfall.
There is also a risk that the discharged toilet water could end up in parts of the Senne iver via the drains.
Brussels Mobility confirmed that the violation has now been established on the regional road where the fair takes place (Boulevard du Midi) and on Boulevard Poincaré.
“We are now working with the city services and the traders to find a solution,” said spokesperson Steven Fierens.
