Grocery cart hand clips free to Colruyt customers
Colruyt has introduced removable plastic hand grips for its grocery carts so it can stop paying an employee to disinfect cart handles. Supermarkets have been required to disinfect grocery cart handles since the start of the lockdown in Belgium to control the spread of the coronavirus.
By the end of July, Colruyt will have handed out six million Clipeez hand grips free to customers. The customers are meant to clip them on and off the carts themselves. They simply take the grips home and bring them back the next time they go shopping.
“Every customer will eventually receive a pair of hand clips,” said Colruyt spokesperson Silja Decock. “Just like our reusable fruit and veggie bags, customers can bring them with them to reuse with every visit.”
While the first six million grips are free, Colruyt will begin selling them after that. Clipeez grips can be washed by hand or popped in the dishwasher. According to VRT, Carrefour and Delhaize are also developing similar systems.
