Left-wing groups plan anti-Jambon protest in Uccle
After Tuesday's speech by state secretary for asylum and migration Theo Francken was cancelled due to left-wing groups blocking the entrance to the Free University of Brussels (VUB), a similar protest appears to be in the making, this time against interior minister Jan Jambon. Calls for protest are circulating on Facebook to block Jambon's security talk scheduled to take place in Uccle's cultural centre on 15 May, writes Bruzz.
Only extreme political groups were involved in Tuesday's incident at the VUB, and few to no VUB students were involved, according to VUB spokesperson, Sicco Wittermans. “We are certain that no internal student groups or movements participated in the protest," he says.
Now the same political groups are organising the Facebook event 'Jambon buiten/Jambon dégage' to interfere with the minister's upcoming talk. "We must fight against their racist, islamophobic and anti-religious talk. That can not be a point of discussion for anyone,” says one of the protesters.
