More than three years after the start of its ambitious commemoration project Every Name Matters, Kazerne Dossin in Mechelen presents an audio monument and a moving photo exhibition, Reflections, in collaboration with photographer Lieve Blancquaert. The holocaust museum commemorates the 25,843 Jews, Roma, and Sinti deported from the barracks in WWII in a personal way with each name recorded by a unique voice. Blancquaert delved into the site’s extensive archives to uncover stories and photos of deportees. “When you look past the numbers at the faces and stories, you discover who these people truly were. That is perhaps even more moving than the horror itself... we show the happiness, the connection, and the love between people before their lives were destroyed,” she says. 30 October to 27 April, Goswin de Stassartstraat 153, Mechelen
