Belgian mobile operators’ prices cheaper but remain high
The price of mobile phone calls in Belgium is beginning to decrease, reports Le Soir. Consumer magazine Test Achats / Test Aankoop has noticed the price drop after examining and comparing 130 offers. The three largest network operators (Proximus, Mobistar and Base) now rank among the most attractive for several user profiles. "They take their revenge on the so-called alternative operators, which offer knockdown prices. Until they, in turn, react?" the magazine asks, hoping that virtual operators reply quickly "by offering more aggressive bids." The new telecom legislation, which came into force on October 1 last year, allows consumers to cancel their subscription after six months without charge. The termination procedure has also been simplified. The survey also shows that prices are higher in Belgium than in other European countries, as was already the case in a 2009 study, but "the difference is not as marked as before. Only the United Kingdom and, to a lesser extent, France and Italy, offers more interesting rates than Belgium”. The cheapest monthly tariff in Belgium costs €15, compared to €8.14 in the UK and €11.81 in Italy.
