Brussels traffic hampered by EU summit
Traffic will be severely hampered on Wednesday by an EU summit, convened specifically to fill a number of top EU jobs. The Schuman district will be completely closed to traffic, as will the Reyers Tunnel.
More specifically, the Schuman roundabout, Froissart (between Schuman and Justus Lipsius) and Rue de la Loi (between Schuman and Boulevard Charlemagne) will be completely closed to all traffic. The same applies to the Reyers tunnel, which is closed from 13.00 today. The right lane of Rue Belliard will also be closed during the day.
STIB and De Lijn buses will make the necessary detours, the metro will continue to ride as usual and Schuman railway station remains open (but not the entrance/exit Schuman/Froissart).
The heads of state and government of the EU member states are gathering today to fill vacant positions in the new European Commission.
Comments
Curious to know who pays for all the police, guards, etc, when the EU consistently blocks our town. Many hours are lost in traffic, congestion, and more.
Probably all EU citizens who pay 75 Euro cents per day.
With thoughtful planning these disruptions could have been avoided.
There is always room for improvement and everything could always be worse!
