Extra security measures in Belgian movie theatres

21:47 24/03/2016

Belgium's largest cinema chains, Kinepolis, owner of Utopolis, and UGC are taking additional measures to ensure the safety of their customers and staff following Tuesday's terror attacks in the capital, reports De Morgen.

Both cinema chains have recruited additional security agents and are working in close collaboration with the police. The companies request that movie-goers not bring any large bags or backpacks to the cinema.

Kinepolis Antwerp and Brussels remained closed yesterday as advised by the public safety authorities. "We will continue to monitor the situation and, in consultation with the authorities, decide on further action in relation to the safety of our visitors and staff," says Kinepolis.

UGC cinemas in Antwerp remain open, while the UGC cinemas in Brussels reopened yesterday.

It is a good move, but why do they have to wait to see death people do this MINIMUM actions? so far the security at the cinemas was zero!
What about the other public spaces or offices in all Belgium, not only Brussels?

pathetic. I went (worried) to a pop concert at the AB not long after the Bataclan attack in Paris. You would have thought that there would be security, right? wrong. None what so ever.
They did however check that you had a ticket and did not smuggle in drinks...doh
When I asked the guy at the door where the security was he replied in a typical Belgian (arrogant) way 'what do you think this is?'
enough said. i rest my case.
