No Génération Identitaire demonstration in Brussels, says minister-president
A demonstration by the French far-right group Génération Identitaire is banned on Saturday throughout the Brussels-Capital Region, says Brussels minister-president Rudi Vervoort, according to Brusselnieuws.
Vervoort announced the decision to ban the extremist group from demonstrating in Brussels during a meeting on Wednesday involving the Region's mayors, chiefs of police, interior minister and representatives of the federal police.
Génération Identitaire had hoped to hold an anti-Islam rally on Saturday in the centre of Molenbeek, one of Brussels' predominantly Muslim communes. "We want to make clear that we are outraged by what is happening. Some people lay flowers and light candles; we want to express our anger," explained Génération Identitaire spokesperson Pierre Larti in De Morgen.
