10,500 cases of vandalism recorded last year in Brussels
The Brussels-Capital Region in 2015 registered 10,532 cases of vandalism. The Region's roads were the hardest hit, followed by car parks, homes and vehicles. The figure is slightly lower than in 2014, writes La Capitale, and there are striking differences between the various zones.
In the zone Brussels City/Ixelles there were 3,558 cases of vandalism last year, whereas the area around Montgomery recorded "only" 999 cases, writes Bruzz.
About one-third of the offenses in Brussels City/Ixelles (1,666) were committed on public roads, 397 on private residences, 235 on other types of housing, 215 in restaurants and cafés and 103 on vehicles.
The Brussels municipalities of Anderlecht, Forest and Saint-Gilles came in second place with 1,985 cases of vandalism, while the municipalities Molenbeek, Koekelberg, Jette, Ganshoren and Berchem-Sainte-Agathe completed the top three with 1,671 cases.
Police spokesperson Ilse Van De Keere says in an interview in La Capitale “not to forget that Brussels City/Ixelles is also the largest zone, accounting for 32-44% of the entire Brussels region.”
