Sample Brussels’ live music festival Brosella from 1-3 July
Enchanting summer festival Brosella is one of Brussels’ most convivial and family-friendly live music events. Returning to leafy Osseghem Park, it promises an immersive experience in the wooded location at the foot of the Atomium.
The festival is a diverse mix of jazz and urban ethno music with 22 bands lined-up to entertain crowds on three stages at the acoustically-impressive Théâtre de Verdure. DJ sets, a kids village, workshops and local and sustainable food all add to the festival vibe.
It’s also highly accessible with tickets priced according to a ‘pay what you can’ solidarity system. Day and weekend passes are available at a suggested price with festivalgoers paying what they can afford. Paying the support price gives financially vulnerable music fans an opportunity to attend the event.
The festival kicks off on Friday with four concerts for Toots100, the centenary programme of events honouring Belgian jazz legend Toots Thielemans. They range from classic to contemporary tributes. It then continues with an urban ethno line-up that promotes emerging musicians and electronica to appeal to younger audiences. It then concludes on Sunday with an impressive line-up of jazz concerts.
It’s a programme that respects the festival’s rich 46-year heritage while reflecting a contemporary artistic and social vision.
International talent is well represented with Jaga Jazzist, Bella Ciao, WDR big band, Brandee Younger trio, Or Bareket, Lo Còr de la Plana. Belgian virtuosity is showcased with the Lara Rosseel Quintet, the Toots Deconstructed team of Teun Verbruggen, Bram De Looze, Yannick Peeters and Philippe Thuriot, Jef Neve and Teus Nobel, Tuur Florizoone, Sonico, Ghalia Benali, Jean-Paul Estièvenart ft Il Gardellino and Eliott Knuets.
The Kids Village has its own line-up and wealth of activities and the festival site abounds with food stands and a summer bar run by young entrepreneurs from Anderlecht low-waste café La Fourmilière.whether that ticket price fits within their current rat
