Olivia and Noah most popular names for new-borns in Belgium in 2021

Belgium welcomed 580 girls with the name Olivia and 627 boys called Noah last year, according to Belgian statistical office Statbel.

Each year, the office publishes the most popular names for newborns. Olivia dominates the top spot for the third time in a year, while Noah replaces Arthur, the previously leader for three years.

Other fashionable female names in 2021 were Emma and Louise. While Arthur and Louis completed the top three names for newborn boys.

In the top 100, one of the big climbers is Alba (159). Other female names on the rise over the past 10 years include Ellie, Ellis, Alya, Cilou, Tasnim, Feline, Charlie, Rosie and Billie.

As for male first names, the main increases over the past decade are for Georges (up from 16 in 2011 to 168 in 2021), Lio, Gaston, Otis, Leo, Cyriel, Eden, Charly and Mattia. Lyam also features, although Liam is at bottom of the ranking for last year.
