Protesting farmers to return to Brussels on Tuesday

15:42 03/06/2024

A European farmers' demonstration scheduled to take place in Brussels on Tuesday 4 June is expected to cause significant traffic problems in the Belgian capital, police have warned.

The protest, which comes days ahead of the elections, will start in the morning and could last until late afternoon.

Most farmers will be travelling by tractor to Brussels from 6.00 on Tuesday via various access routes, with plans to gather on the Heysel plateau in Laeken.

Traffic problems will be concentrated in this area, the Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police zone said.

The area around Rue de la Loi and the European Quarter could also experience traffic disruption at times.

Police are advising people to use public transport, especially the metro and train.
