'Selfish' wedding convoy blocks A12 motorway
Video footage has emerged of a wedding party bringing a motorway near Brussels to a standstill - a move condemned by Flemish mobility minister Ben Weyts as "disgusting, selfish and mortally dangerous".
Police are working to identify the group of men whose cars blocked all the lanes on the Brussels-bound A12 at Meise on Saturday lunchtime.
A mobile phone video recorded by a motorist shows a convoy of cars weaving across lanes with their hazard lights on. The cars then come to a complete standstill and the occupants get out to throw the groom into the air.
Police were called to the scene, but by the time they arrived the vehicles had moved on. Investigators are now working to identify the people involved - and police have appealed for anyone who saw what happened to lodge a formal complaint.
"The justice system must act very firmly," said Weyts. "On the basis of witness statements and videos, there is enough material to bring prosecutions. In the footage we see at least 20 breaches of the highway code. Time to get to work and set an example to stop this happening again."
