Storms on Tuesday bring an end to 36°C heat
Belgium's Royal Meteorological Institute has issued a 'yellow' storm warning for the whole country on Tuesday, with thunderstorms expected during the afternoon and evening.
The official forecaster says: "These storms may be accompanied by strong gusts of wind and hail. There will be heavy localised rainfall for short periods of time. The storm risk will persist overnight from Tuesday into Wednesday."
In Brussels, the storm warning is valid from 16.00 on Tuesday afternoon until about 7.00 on Wednesday morning.
Before the storm arrives, daytime temperatures of up to 36°C are forecast - but Tuesday should be the last day of 30-plus heat for the foreseeable future.
Temperatures are expected to drop to 26°C in Brussels on Wednesday and 25°C on Thursday, when more storms are due. By Friday, peak temperatures will be around the 21°C mark, with further storms forecast at the weekend.
