Two suspects arrested at Belgian coast in connection with possible human trafficking
Two people suspected of human trafficking were arrested on the Belgian coast during the night of Friday to Saturday, reports RTBF and Belga.
The West Flanders public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into the alleged trafficking. The two suspects were found in the company of around 30 people in Oostduinkerke in the municipality of Koksijde.
Local police discovered the group of people in a small truck around 4:30. They were thought to have been planning to cross the North Sea to the UK. Police expect an increase in crossing attempts over the coming weeks due to the return of warmer weather and reinforced controls on the French coast in the run-up to the Paris Olympic Games.
