Vintage trains on display in Schaerbeek this weekend for 100th anniversary of SNCB

Belgian railway operator SNCB is bringing some of its most iconic locomotives and carriages together into one single historic train this weekend to mark its 100th anniversary.

This will be the first time such a thing has been done, SNCB said. 

The train features 11 pieces of railway heritage lined up end to end at Schaerbeek station in Brussels, totalling almost 300 metres of railway history. 

Many of the carriages will be open for the public to take a look inside. 

Visitors will be able to glimpse a century of rolling stock development in Belgium, ranging from the royal carriages of 1939 to the first electric locomotives, including the very latest M7 double-decker carriages. 

The train will be at Schaerbeek station on Saturday and Sunday from 10.00 to 17.00. Admission is free and no booking is required. 

The historic train will then be on display at Liège-Guillemins from 12 to 13 September and Antwerp Central from 10 to 11 October.

Visitors to Schaerbeek station this weekend can also combine their visit with a trip to Train World, SNCB’s railway museum, located on site.
