European Sleeper plans new night train from Brussels to Copenhagen and Malmö in 2028

Belgian-Dutch rail company European Sleeper aims to introduce a night train from Brussels and Amsterdam to Danish capital Copenhagen and Malmö in Sweden from April 2028, it has announced.

The company has entered into a strategic partnership with the German train operator RDC to launch its first route to Scandinavia.

European Sleeper already runs several night train connections to Germany as well as Prague in the Czech Republic. It is also preparing to launch a new night train to Milan in Italy via Switzerland from 9 September. Other services in the pipeline include a connection between Brussels and the Spanish city of Barcelona in 2028.

Commenting on the new Copenhagen and Malmö route, the company’s co-founder Chris Engelsman said: “Our network is growing rapidly, Scandinavia is a natural next step.”

RDC’s chief executive Markus Hunkel added: “RDC has many years of experience operating night trains between Germany and Scandinavia. Together with European Sleeper, we can build on that experience and create a strong new connection between the Benelux, Denmark and Sweden.”

European Sleeper points out that the new Scandinavia route also brings cities such as Stockholm, Oslo, Paris or London within reach with just one transfer.

Although the timetable for the new service is currently under negotiation, the intention is to leave around 19.00 from both Brussels and Malmö, arriving at the final destination around 10.00 the next morning.

Prices are also not yet known. The service is expected to offer the usual range of night train accommodation, including seats, couchettes and sleeper compartments, with deluxe sleeper options also being considered.
