Worker seriously injured after falling into incinerator waste pit
A worker was seriously injured after falling into a waste pit at a site managed by Bruxelles Energie, a subsidiary of waste collection service Bruxelles Propreté.
The accident took place on Friday evening at abvout 20.15 and emergency services were called to the scene.
The worker was employed by a sub-contractor working on the site and the exact circumstances of the accident are still being investigated.
“The labour inspectorate came to the site and Bruxelles Energie is actively cooperating in the investigation to clarify the cause of the incident and to be able to take possible additional measures to improve the safety of the employees,” said Bruxelles Propreté spokesperson Adel Lassouli.
In the meantime, psychological assistance is being provided for the employees of the site and Bruxelles Energie expressed its full support for the victim, his family and the employees involved.
The Bruxelles Energie site is located along the canal in Brussels and is the incineration plant for energy recovery, generating energy from non-recyclable waste.
