200 drivers fined for nuisance wedding processions
A central Brussels police crackdown on dangerous driving by wedding processions has resulted in 200 fines being handed out in one month.
The Brussels-Ixelles police district began taking a strict stance on wedding motorcades on 1 April, after a growing number of complaints from locals.
The fines were mostly for traffic violations, such as excessive use of car horns. City councillor Alain Courtois said: "This recently implemented action plan is beginning to bear fruit. I have been informing newlyweds about the consequences of inappropriate behaviour during wedding processions. We are acting firmly."
In March, a video clip was widely shared on social media showing a wedding party driving dangerously on the A12 near Brussels, before bringing the motorway to a standstill, getting out of their cars and throwing the groom into the air. Their actions were condemned by Flemish mobility minister Ben Weyts as "disgusting, selfish and mortally dangerous".
