Belgian documentary wins top prize at French international film festival
Belgian film Dames de couleurs won the Grand Jury Prize at the Caméras des champs international film festival, whose 15th edition was held from May 22 to 26 in Ville-sur-Yron, northeast France. Directed by Patricia Gérimont and Jean-Claude Taburiaux, the documentary follows two dyers, Sanata and Dicko, in Mali - the former hails from Bamako while the latter works in the bush. "The film takes us from a Dogon village to the big city” following “these women with remarkable expertise and whose ongoing challenge is to ensure a decent life for their children, " the organisers said in a statement. Fifteen films were competiting for the Grand Jury Prize. The Caméras des champs festival aims to highlight the changes taking place in rural environments through documentary films and to initiate discussions with and among the audience.
