European Outdoor Film Tour comes to Belgium

08:59 29/10/2024

Dreaming of adventure and travel as the dark season sets in? Seek inspiration or simply indulge in thrilling escapism at the European Outdoor Film Tour, which is rolling into Belgium from 17 to 22 November.

Visiting six cities across the country, the programme features six new films that enable audiences to view the world from its most adventurous side.

Discover how a pair of freeride skis, a longboard, a mountain bike or a home-made raft can launch a bunch of tenacious individuals on an experience of a lifetime.

In Cycle of Bayanihan, US mountain pro Samantha Soriano sets off on a journey of discovery to the Philippines, the birth country of her father. With simply her bike and a curious spirit, she explores her roots and finds not only her own relatives but a growing mountain biking community.

In 2013, Londoners Ben and Hugo head to Northern Sweden to make a raft out of pallets and plastic containers. To the Sea recounts their rainswept navigation of the Vindelälven, overcoming rapids and thunderstorms on their bumpy ride to the sea. Initially planned as a two-week trip, it is transformed into a six-year expedition in multiple stages.

Climber Erik Weihenmayer may not see what’s in front of him, but he hears and feels everything around him. In Soundscape, he joins forces with climbing partner Timmy O’Neill to take on the challenge of scaling an imposing vertical rock wall in the Sierra Nevada, aptly named The Incredible Hulk.

For Austrian downhill skateboarder Anna Pixner, the high-octane world of tight switchbacks and steep passes is her personal antidote to social anxieties. In Anna we learn how it also provides her access to an international community of like-minded people.

Catalan pro-climber Edu Marín brings along his 70-year-old father on an expedition to the Karakoram in Keep it Burning. When his brother Alex accompanies them to the notorious Trango Towers in northern Pakistan, it becomes even more of a family affair. Yet the biggest challenge on their trip is mother nature.

After exploits in Peru and Alaska, Austrian freeskier Nadine Wallner sets herself a challenge closer to home. Backyard (pictured, main image) sees her attempting five freeride descents, 3,000 vertical meters and 29 kilometres all in one day in the ski resort of Arlberg. Although she waited years for the perfect conditions, not everything goes to plan when combatting the steep climbs and even more vertical descents.

All of the films shown in the programme are in original version with subtitles in the local language and without any age restrictions. The total screening time is around 120 minutes and there’s a 20 minute interval.
