Belgian prime minister recovering from cycling accident
Belgian prime minister Alexander De Croo was briefly hospitalised after a fall on his bike at the weekend, but is now recovering.
De Croo fell off his bicycle a few hundred metres from his home in Brakel, East Flanders, while out with his son, according to his office.
The prime minister fell on his head and lost consciousness for a few moments. He was taken to hospital for a series of tests, which revealed no major concerns, and then sent home.
The accident is not expected to have an impact on his schedule.
De Croo sent a video to the press and also posted it on social media, in which he assured everyone that he was doing fine.
“Thank you for your well wishes,” he said in the video, sharing the news that he was home from the hospital.
“Fortunately, I was wearing a helmet and my son called the emergency services. I'd like to thank the emergency services at Ghent University Hospital. Thank you for your care. Sport is good for your health, but sometimes you have to be a bit careful.”
