The best vol-au-vent in Brussels award goes to La Pierre Bleue restaurant

17:43 06/07/2025

The restaurant La Pierre Bleue has won the title of best vol-au-vent in Brussels 2025 during a ceremony at the City Hall in the presence of mayor Philippe Close (PS), reports Bruzz.

At the helm of the Belgian-French restaurant are Christophe and chef Alain, who seduced the jury "with their generous and refined interpretation of the emblematic dish".

The competition was organised by the nonprofit BXLove, led by Brussels chef Christophe Hardiquest (Menssa, ex-Bonbon). It was staged in some 20 restaurants in the capital during the month of May. The aim was to celebrate local gastronomy via one of Belgium’s classic dishes.

Vol-au-vent traditionally consists of a puff pastry case filled with chicken, creamy sauce, mushrooms and meatballs, and is usually served with fries. The culinary contest was judged according to strict criteria: the quality of the puff pastry, the cooking of the chicken, the mastery of the sauce and how complementary the side dishes were.

The jury, made up of hotel managers, journalists, influencers, local personalities and the public, voted for The Brasserie in second place, followed by Le Roy d'Espagne. And the prize for best fries went to restaurant Le Corbier, due to the exceptional quality of its side dish.

Given the success of the competition, BXLove has announced that the 2026 edition will be dedicated to the best steak tartare, announced Brussels’ mayor.

In last year’s competition, Brasserie Ommegang was judged the best place for traditional carbonnade (stoofvlees), a beef stew flavoured with local beer.
