Are you looking for sports opportunities for kids in English in Brussels? Brussels Sports Association (BSA) has been offering sports to the international community of Brussels since 1958.

BSA is a not-for-profit, volunteer-based organisation that offers sports to all children aged 4-13, coming from various international and local schools in Belgium. Thanks to the generosity of the International School of Brussels, training sessions and many games take place at the impressive ISB campus in Watermael-Boitsfort.

Three sports are scheduled throughout the year: football (soccer) in the autumn, winter and spring; basketball in the winter; and baseball in the spring.

But BSA isn’t just about sports. Throughout the year, BSA also organises several family events, from trick or treating in the autumn, to a Family Fun Day at the end of the school year.

“BSA is a place where families can connect with people outside of their usual social circles, and children can explore new sports in a supportive, friendly environment. The incredible effort put into our sports programmes and community events is a testament to the dedication of our volunteers. Once you experience the unique energy of BSA, you'll quickly see how much we care about our community,” says Lizette Subach, managing director of BSA.

Volunteering is part of BSA’s DNA. Coaches are parent volunteers who generously give their time to support the kids and the community. Jim Bredemus, BSA’s basketball director and a coach said he played a lot of basketball as a child and had some great coaches, so volunteering with BSA was a nice way to give back. It’s also a way for parents to spend quality time with their kids while playing a sport they love and see their offspring develop throughout the season and form friendships.

Says Jim: “At BSA Basketball everyone is welcome, no matter their background, skill level or experience. We’re proud to create a positive, supportive space where kids from all over the world connect on the court and can develop their skills.”

On 20 October, the registration for BSA’s basketball program will open up for kids aged 6-12. The kids play in mixed girls and boys teams and meet twice per week, once after school in the evening and once on Sundays (6-7 year old’s meet once a week on Sundays).

BSA welcomes all skill levels. This school year, the Basketball programme runs from 23 November to 29 March. The organisation hopes to grow its basketball programme this year to provide sports opportunities to even more kids. “The heart of BSA Basketball is fun. We want every player to leave the court smiling, feeling encouraged, and excited to come back next week,” explains Jim.

Along with the winter basketball and soccer programmes, which run three seasons throughout the school year with three registration moments, there’s a baseball programme in the spring.
