Brussels Basketball launches its new season with a thrilling opening match on 6 October
For its highly-anticipated season opener, Brussels Basketball is hosting CB Liège at the ING Arena in Brussels on 6 October.
The capital’s men’s basketball team is launching its 2026-27 campaign in the cross-border Belgian-Dutch BNXT League with a full entertainment experience.
Warming up the crowds with live music before the match is Daryl Ngoga. At half-time, Kulturr steps into the arena, while the Kingz Nation dancers take care of the quarter breaks. Party organisers, N’Joy The Beat then thrill the crowds following the game.
The sporting action itself begins with the traditional tip-off at 20.30. Both teams will be keen to get on the winning side in what is expected to be a gripping and fast-paced game.
Brussels Basketball boasts a team with players from across the country, as well as the Netherlands and the USA. Founded in 1957, the club has competed in the first division since the 2013-2014 season.
Its home games are usually played at the sport complex of Neder-Over-Heembeek, but three times a year they are staged at ING Arena in front of a crowd of some 6,000 supporters.
“For the first time in our history, we will play our very first game of the season at the ING Arena. A huge challenge both for the players and the staff, but also for the organisation team, said Youssouf Keita, deputy general manager of Brussels Basketball.
“Organising events there is our way to showcase the true diversity of our city and put Brussels on the map of Belgian, and even international, basketball. We bring the urban populations together for one night of fun and entertainment, that’s what sports is all about,” he added.
The indoor facility, part of Brussels Expo, hosts major events, including concerts, entertainment shows and sporting events thanks to its 15,000 audience capacity. For basketball matches, the maximum capacity is 6,700.
It is no surprise that the arena is staging basketball games. The sport is rising in popularity across Belgium, helped by the success of its national women’s team, the Belgian Cats. Now Brussels Basketball is looking to match their success and draw the crowds with its busy upcoming match schedule.
