Brussels Housing Fund expands to include middle class
The Brussels Housing Fund has adapted the conditions necessary to qualify for a mortgage loan at a low interest rate when purchasing a home in the Brussels-Capital Region. With an aim to make the benefit available to more middle class families, the Fund now stipulates that a couple with no dependents may have an annual income of up to €71,393 and still qualify, writes Brusselnieuws.
"In the past, two-income households could rarely take advantage of the Housing Fund," explains Brussels housing minister Céline Fremault. "However, there are a lot of young double-income households that have difficulty buying a home on the private market. We want to ensure that they can borrow at a low rate, so they won't leave Brussels."
Previously, there were only two categories, but since 25 January the Housing Fund works with three categories, which take into account the socio-economic status of the applicant families. A single person, for example, may earn up to €45,895 a year to qualify, while a double-income couple with no dependent children may have an annual income of up to €71,393, well above the previous limit of €54,390.
