Brussels Jazz Orchestra receives two Grammy nods

The Brussels Jazz Orchestra (BJO) have been nominated  for two Grammy Awards for their latest CD Wild Beauty. The orchestra was nominated for Best Instrumental Arrangement and Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album.

The music on the album was written by famed American saxophonist Joe Lovano; the eight pieces are somewhat of a showcase of his years of work, drawing inspiration from his Italian roots. Lovano (pictured with BJO) has worked previously with the jazz orchestra, as well as other Belgian jazz ensembles.

Wild Beauty was arranged by American jazzman Gil Godstein, who has worked around the globe with some of the biggest names in jazz and pop, including David Sanborn, Sting and Elton John.

This is the 20th anniversary of the BJO, the largest professional jazz outfit in the country. In 2011, they performed the music for the film The Artist, which won the Oscar for best original musical score. The BJO’s next concert is on 22 January in Antwerp’s deSingel. The Grammy Awards take place in Los Angeles on 26 January.
