Brussels to ring in New Year with firework display in city centre
A festive firework show in Place des Palais is set to light up the night sky of Brussels on New Year’s Eve.
The traditional celebration on 31 December opens to the public from 23.00. Spectators can access three viewing zones around the site and are invited to arrive as early as possible to join in the explosive experience.
The viewing areas are as follows:
Zone Place des Palais Access via Rue Royale (intersection Place des Palais)
Zone Trône Place du Trône, access via Porte de Namur/Boulevard du Regent
Zone Parc Parc de Bruxelles, access via Rue Royale and Rue de la Loi (intersection Rue Ducale)
A zone is provided for people with reduced mobility people, which is accessible via Place des Palais (Rue Royale side).
Security checks will be in place at each entrance. Backpacks and other bulky personal items are banned as well as glass bottles and other potentially dangerous objects, including firecrackers.
Leading up to Sunday evening’s event, numerous streets will be inaccessible. Place des Palais is to close from 14.00 and other streets in the Brussels Park neighbourhood close from 20.00.
Spectators are urged to use public transport when travelling to the site. There will be additional metro, tram and bus services, free from midnight until 5.30 in the morning.
The Noctis bus and tram 81 are running from midnight until 5.00. Metro and tram lines, as well as shuttle buses replacing some tram lines, will operate until 2.30.
Due to preparations for the firework show, Parc metro station will be closed from 20.00, Trône from 22.00. More information from Stib-Mivb.
Cyclists are informed that bike-parking spots will be installed on Place Royale and Boulevard Regent, between Porte de Namur and Place du Trône.
