Brussels seeks cultural ambassadors to project positive image of city
Flemish minister for Brussels Benjamin Dalle (CD&V) will appoint five new ambassadors this summer to strengthen the capital's image, both within Brussels and abroad.
This is the second round of ambassador appointments, Bruzz reports, and the public is welcome to make proposals for who the new appointees should be by emailing info@brusseldanst.be.
Candidates may come from various backgrounds, from sport and literature to education and television.
The first round of appointments was last year, when Dalle selected rapper Héritier Tipo and cycling champion Remco Evenepoel, in addition to several lesser-known residents.
“The ambassadorship is symbolic appreciation for the work they are already doing and recognition of the passion they exude for Brussels,” Dalle said, adding that the goal of the ambassadorships is to improve Brussels' image.
The five new ambassadors will be announced on 11 July during the 12th edition of Brussel Danst, Brussels’ celebration of the Flemish holiday.
In cooperation with 32 Dutch-speaking cultural, social and youth organisations, the Muntpunt will organise various activities on the day.
The programme is spread across the Grand-Place, the Bourse, the Brussels Parliament, Muntpunt, Ancienne Belgique and the Beursschouwburg.
Besides music, the programme also includes exhibitions, street theatre, roller disco and guided walking and cycling tours.
