Brussels singer Mustii to represent Belgium in 2024 Eurovision Song Contest
Belgium is the first country to announce its act for the next Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden: singer and actor Mustii.
The multi-talented and award-winning Brussels artist, Thomas Mustin, better known as Mustii, is a well-known and popular talent. He has released two albums, 21st Century Boy and The Darkest Nigh,t and is a judge on the Belgian French-language TV reality series Drag Race Belgique.
Following the announcement, Mustii told RTBF that representing Belgium was “something surreal” and also a “personal challenge”.
“If I chose the discipline of artist, it was precisely to live things as intensely as possible and I believe that all the ingredients are united in Eurovision, so it will be a great moment,” he said.
Asked about his initial response to the offer to take part in the song contest, he quipped: "My first reaction was silence.” This was followed by a rush of images, ideas and fantasies. “Now you have to sit down and be judicious in your choices. It's a huge stage, it makes you want to really get down to wok. I can't wait."
The 32-year-old admits he feels both stress and anticipation. "But above all I want to experience new things and extraordinary experiences. That's my prime motivation. Being in front of millions of viewers doesn't happen often in a lifetime, but you have to take the challenge head-on. That's my goal."
Questioned about the ranking he was aiming for, Mustii told RTBF that his main aim was to make an impression. "Above all, I want the performance to be the right one, sincere and authentic. I also want to be comfortable and proud of my performance."
In the meantime, Mustii is working on his third album and is performing at Ancienne Belgique in Brussels on 19 October.
