Cabaret Odyssea comes to the capital for the festive season
Magic Cabaret returns to Brussels with a new end-of-year show, Cabaret Odyssea, that blends magic, circus, music and dance with aerial acrobatics, sword swallowing, roller skating and hat juggling.
The fifth edition of the festive season extravaganza is staged at the Gare Maritime in Tour & Taxis from 11 December to 24 January.
For its new production, Magic Cabaret takes the elegance of the 1920s and glamour of Parisian cabaret with “a new take on cabaret, bringing circus, magic and illusion together in one continuous theatrical experience.”
Cabaret Odyssea is created, choreographed and directed by Brussels-based Emmanuelle Lamberts, following four editions under the artistic direction of Jack Cooper.
The show recounts the tale of three orphans on a journey into the unknown. Along the way, encounters, illusions and deception put their choices and instincts to the test. As the adventure continues, the children begin to question everything they thought they knew.
And in today’s uncertain world, behind the illusions and spectacular feats, Cabaret Odyssea asks: “How do we find our own way when no one else can choose it for us?”
This year, for the first time, the show unfolds entirely without dialogue. Movement, music and physical performance tell the story, as individual acts give way to one constantly moving, choreographed production.
Moreover, spectators are able to get in the mood well before the spectacle. During the 45-minute pre-show, audiences can enjoy a drink, meet the characters and catch the first performances in rooms inspired by the atmosphere of a cabinet of curiosities that were so popular in the 17th and 18th centuries. The performers move among the crowd, with these first encounters hinting at the stories and secrets to come.
The audience is then seated around a central round stage, with the performers at the centre, for a panoramic vision of the show.
So get your glad rags on and come and experience a totally new world this winter in downtown Brussels. Tickets range from €30 to €125 and the show lasts 1 hour 50 minutes.
