Chamber Jazz Consort to perform at Le Baixu on 1 October
Delivering a dynamic performance, the Chamber Jazz Consort skilfully blends the richness and elegance of classical string music with the intricate rhythms and melodic intricacies of jazz.
The quintet will be playing a diverse range of pieces, from traditional swing compositions to modern and contemporary jazz, at Le Baixu on 1 October.
It boasts an extensive repertoire with the ensemble functioning as a collective, presenting various formations such as trios, quintets and even larger ensembles.
In its quintet set-up, the group features accomplished musicians who excel in both classical music and jazz.
Born in Uzbekistan with Ukrainian roots, clarinetist Anton Jakimenko arrived as a refugee in the Netherlands as a child. Coming from both a classical and jazz background, he developed a unique form of sound expression transiting Western music language, Slavic folklore, and Eastern traditions.
Multiple award winner jazz violinist Oene van Geel will be joining the ensemble and sharing the stage with three other classical string players: Sarah Oates - concertmaster of the Opera Ballet Amsterdam, Nadja Nevolovitsch - violin professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln and Eduardo Tonietto - cellist and artistic director of Brussels Muzieque.
The performance is a Brussels Muzieque project with this classical music collaborative regularly venturing into other styles of music. For its 2023-2024 season, the platform presents a harmonious exploration of ‘Transcendence’, in which music becomes the key to unlocking the infinite possibilities of its collective journey.
This concert is part of Le Baixu’s diverse and packed musical programme. The nonprofit music venue at Tour & Taxis boasts excellent acoustics and provides a platform for quality artists from all musical genres in Brussels. Located in a cellar of the historic building, it promises all music fans a unique and convivial experience.
Tickets: €15 (€8 students).
