Local Rotary club to raise money for charity during Bright Brussels

09:00

The annual Bright Brussels light show in February will be a bit brighter this year with a local Rotary club serving up drinks as a fundraiser for a Brussels-based charity.

Displaying more than 20 outdoor light installations by artists from all over the world, the popular annual event organised by Visit Brussels  runs from 12 to 15 February.

Each day of the festival, from 18.30 to 23.00, the Rotary Club Brussels Cantersteen isl selling Glühwein and other drinks for charity in front of the La Monnaie opera house.

All proceeds from the Rotary chalet go to Serve the City Brussels, a non-profit group that helps the elderly, homeless, children in need, people with disabilities, victims of abuse and asylum seekers and refugees.

“We have supported Serve the City Brussels for the last four years and hope to top all of our previous donations with this popular event,” says Christoph Swoboda, president of Rotary Club Brussels Cantersteen. “Our members look forward to serving as many Bright Brussels visitors as possible to help Serve the City offer even more to the local community.” The funds from last year’s Rotary chalet paid for one e-cargo bike for Serve the City.

“This partnership with Rotary Club Brussels Cantersteen shows how working together can make a real difference,” adds Nathan Torrini, executive director, Serve the City Brussels. “The money raised will go towards a new e-cargo bike that will help us support more people in need across Brussels in a faster and more sustainable way. We truly appreciate the Rotary club’s ongoing support and commitment to our mission."

Bright Brussels attracts about a half million visitors each year, according to Visit Brussels. This year, the illuminated route is connected and walkable on foot and can be experienced as a 6km loop through central Brussels.

In addition to the light trail, the 2026 edition includes activities such as Bright Brussels Market, Bright Brussels Kids and Bright Brussels Food – a new culinary programme.

Rotary Club Brussels Cantersteen is a local chapter of Rotary International, a global network of more than 1.2 million business, professional and community leaders who provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill and peace. Cantersteen is an international club with members from about 15 countries.

Serve the City Brussels is the founding organisation of the Serve the City global movement of volunteers showing kindness in practical ways to people in need. It serves the elderly, homeless, children in need, people with disabilities, victims of abuse and asylum seekers and refugees, mobilising thousands of volunteers in about 20 weekly activities.
