Major upsets in Brussels transport Tuesday
Tuesday was a difficult day for public transport in Brussels. On the metro, traffic on lines 2 and 6 was held up for more than an hour following an attempted suicide on the metro tracks. The person involved survived and was transported to hospital. The public transport authority MIVB ran shuttle buses between Bockstael and Delacroix stations.
Road subsidence on the Koninginnelaan in Laken made it impossible for tram 93 to run between Bockstael and Jules De Trooz. A bus service was laid on, but the problem is expected to continue for several days while the repaired road surface hardens.
Tram lines 7 (Heizel-Vanderkindere) and 92 (Schaarbeek station –-Fort Jaco) will from next week be serviced by higher-capacity trams, MIVB said. Line 92 moves up to the T3000 longer vehicle (pictured) capable of carrying more passengers, while line 7, currently served by T3000 trams, sees the arrival of the new T4000. The change will allow for 700 extra places an hour on both lines. Tram line 62, currently operating between Da Vinci in Evere and Weldoeners in Schaarbeek, will be extended from Da Vinci to the cemetery in Jette.
