Neil Young and Jean-Michel Jarre perform at new summer festival Brussels Palace Open Air
Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young and pioneering French artist Jean-Michel Jarre are headlining a new summer outdoor event Brussels Palace Open Air.
It is staged in the capital’s Place des Palais, with the Royal Palace providing the backdrop for the star-studded musical line-up.
With his new band Chrome Hearts, Neil Young performs in the Belgian capital on 30 June as part of an extensive world tour supporting their upcoming LP, Talkin’ to the Trees.
“Music unites!” wrote Young on his official website, reports Rolling Stone. “We will be there with you! Join us as we celebrate the Summer of Democracy. Old songs and new songs. Old words and new words. Long jams!,” added the singer who is making his first appearance in Belgium in six years.
The legendary Canadia singer is followed by electro pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre (main image), who takes to the stage on 1 July. He announces "an exclusive retro-futuristic concert with a monumental and unique stage set-up that reconnects with the mega-concerts that shaped his legend," says the organiser of the event.
The French artist, who has sold 85 million albums, has not appeared in Belgium since his visit to Palais 12 in 2016. Jarre broke into the electronic music scene in 1976 with the album Oxygene and sealed his reputation two years later with Equinoxe.
Since the launch of his career, the son of composer Maurice Jarre “wanted to break with the standard of usual venues” and turned to mega-concerts, which allowed him to perform in major venues around the world. He notably performed in front of nearly 70,000 spectators at the foot of the Atomium in 1993.
