Brussels has established itself as a vibrant hub for contemporary art, not only in Europe but also internationally.

Artists, galleries, art centres, art schools and a raft of new spaces and initiative all contribute to a constantly evolving landscape.

To offer a panoramic and up-to-date overview, the Foundation for the Arts publishes the Brussels Art Guide every two years.

For this 2026 edition, culture journalist Sarah Schug has penned portraits of 10 young Brussels artists. Showcasing the diversity of contemporary artistic creation, they are: Antoinette d’Ansembourg, Nicolas Bourthoumieux, Charlotte vander Borght, Laurie Charles, Eloïse Lega Breyssens, Ethel Lilienfeld, Angyvir Padilla, Anna Safiatou Touré, Mostafa Saifi Rahmouni and Philémon Siesling.

"It was striking to see the common denominators among the interviewed artists: all of them praised the openness and friendliness of the Brussels scene," she said. "At the same time, many pointed out the growing lack of funding," added Schug, in reference to the economic challenges that the cultural sector is facing.

The guide spotlights 40 venues that play a key role in exhibiting contemporary art — galleries, art centres, museums and independent spaces. For the first time, it also includes art schools, alongside private projects and specialised bookstores.

At the end of the book, there is a useful calendar of fairs and major annual events. Several detailed maps also enable readers to easily locate the city’s main galleries.

The 2026 edition of the Brussels Art Guide is on sale in bookstores from 6 December.
