Escape attempt at Saint-Gilles prison

Sunday night around 20.30, several individuals attempted to force open the gate of the Saint-Gilles prison with the help of a car, according to Brussels police.

In the attempt, several shots were fired by the armed offenders, and a nurse was briefly held hostage, but no one was injured. Security measures prevented the perpetrators from entering the prison, and no prisoners escaped.

The offenders were able to get away in a second car.
