Oslo delegation to visit Brussels pedestrian zone

17:02 16/05/2016

A delegation of 22 business owners, politicians and developers from the Norwegian capital of Oslo on Friday will pay an official visit to Brussels to study its nearly one-year-old pedestrian zone, as Oslo researches the possibility of introducing its own car-free city centre by 2019.

The still fledgling pedestrian area in and around Avenue Anspach is one of 15 car-free zones being examined by the Norwegian Institute of Transport. Oslo, where the city council wants to make a pedestrian zone of a large part of the city centre by 2019, is comparable to Brussels in terms of the size of the zone and the decision to ban traffic from a major road.
