Pimm’s time: British community mid-summer garden party at Waterloo cricket club on 25 June
The sound of leather on willow will provide the genteel backdrop for the Brussels British Community Association (BBCA)’s annual mid-summer garden party on Sunday 25 June.
Once again, the Royal Brussels Cricket Club is hosting the charity fundraiser at its bucolic grounds in Lasne-Ohain and laying on a friendly ‘village green’ cricket match for the thrill – or amusement – of the crowds.
Expats and locals alike are invited to join the fifth edition of the free community celebration.
There’s plenty of refreshments laid on, including Pimm’s, mocktails, a BBQ (organised by local British store Stonemanor), a tea stand with a generous spread of home-made cakes and fresh strawberries and cream, as well as a cash bar in the clubhouse.
Little ones can join in some traditional fun games such as an egg and spoon race, three-legged race and a tug of war.
As ever, the garden party’s popular raffle offers prizes by generous donors and will raise much-needed cash for the BBCA’s local charities.
Underlining the importance of participation by the wider community, BBCA chair Glenn Vaughan says: “Our priority is to bring people together and this is a great opportunity to do that. The party is not just for Brits – everyone is welcome.”
The event is supported by BBCA charities: CHS, BCF, the Brussels Branch of the Royal British Legion and The Wednesday Club, plus Britcham.
Registration is not obligatory, but it will help organisers cater for the party. Volunteers are also welcome (contact: hayesnicola6@gmail.com) as are cake donations (contact: sarah.crew@thebulletin.be).
While some seating is provided, visitors are welcome to bring along their own folding chairs and picnic rugs.
